COOKING METHOD
Welcome, Che!
Here you’ll learn all the tricks and tips to cook your Che! empanadas like a pro.
We’re sharing the best hacks to make your empanadas super tasty and turn you into a Che! MASTER!
🧊 First things first: Do you need to thaw them?
You can cook the empanadas straight from frozen,
but if you’re making more than 6 at once, we recommend thawing them naturally in the refrigerator.
※ When thawing, take them out of the bag and place them on a plate in the fridge.
Don’t use the microwave to defrost them! (unless you are a great microwave user...)
Important Tip: Cooking time and temperature may vary depending on your oven’s power.
The filling is already cooked, so the key is to cook the dough properly at high heat.
We recommend baking at 230–250°C for a short time for best results.
Oven-Baked (Cooking time: 15–20 min)
Difficulty: Easy
Preheat your oven to 230–250°C.
If baking just a few empanadas, go with 230°C. For bigger batches, increase the temperature slightly.
Never, ever skip this step.
If you’d like, brush the tops with beaten egg — it makes them look golden and beautiful.
Once the oven is hot, bake for 15–20 minutes.
(If they have cheese: watch out! Take them out a bit early so they don’t burst!)
Empanadas with cheese or creamy fillings can leak if overbaked,
so take them out a little early if needed.
Hot oven is key!
Let them cool a little… and enjoy!
Fried (Cooking time: 2–5 min)
Fast and recommended! Difficulty: Medium
Heat oil to 170–180°C.
Fry until golden brown.
If frozen: 5–6 minutes. If thawed: 2–3 minutes.
Air Fryer (Cooking time: 15 min)
Difficulty: Easy
Place frozen empanadas in the fryer tray and cook at 185°C for 15 minutes.
Super easy! They come out dry, crisp, and delicious!
BBQ Che! (Cooking time: 10 min)
Difficulty: High (****)
Thaw the empanadas in the fridge beforehand.
Place them on the BBQ grill and cook for 10–15 minutes until crisp.
🔥 Super important! To prevent sticking, brush a little oil on the grill or dust the empanadas with flour.
⚠️ DON’T MOVE THEM while cooking — wait until the bottom is well cooked and golden before flipping. Then repeat on the other side.
Sakana Grill… (Fish Grill – Cooking time: from 4 minutes)
Dofficulty: Easy
The sakana grill is the little built-in grill under the stovetop in many Japanese kitchens.
It’s usually used for grilling fish, but it’s perfect for empanadas too!
A hidden gem!
-
Prepare a sheet of aluminum foil.
-
Place the frozen or thawed (2 hours in the fridge) empanadas on the foil.
Cook on low heat: 2 minutes on one side, then flip and cook 2 more minutes.
They come out crispy, dry, and soooo tasty
🧀 The Messy Ones... with Cheese!
Cheese empanadas are absolutely delicious,
but depending on how you cook them, the filling can escape.
To enjoy them at their best, follow these tips:
-
High heat is key!
Preheat your oven to 230–250°C before baking.
DO NOT skip this step! -

Worried about cheese explosions?
Frying is the best method for cheese empanadas. -
If your oven is old or feels weak, try the magical sakana grill (fish grill)!
And now…
With all these tips…
you are officially a MAESTRO EMPANADERO and a true CHE! MASTER!
