Argentine Movies to watch while eating Che! Empanada

Hola Che! Amigos!!

Today, I’d like to introduce seven Argentine films that I especially recommend.
Drama, suspense, a touch of humor, and deep themes—
Each one is a memorable film that will leave you thinking, "I'm glad I watched this"

Argentina has a great movie industry and we would love to share it with you! Ready?

 1. Wild Tales (Relatos Salvajes)

An anthology film made up of six short stories.
Each one shows someone pushed to the edge by everyday frustrations, leading to some over-the-top—and oddly funny—situations.
Perfect for fans of dark humor.

2. The Clan (El Clan)

A suspense film based on a true story.
A seemingly ordinary family is secretly running a kidnapping business—shocking and gripping from start to finish.

3. The Secret in Their Eyes (El Secreto de Sus Ojos)

A mystery drama about an unsolved murder and a love that has been hidden for years.
Slow-paced but emotionally powerful, this film leaves a lasting impression.
It won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.

6. Argentina, 1985

Based on real events, this political drama follows a young team of prosecutors trying to bring a military dictatorship to justice.
While the subject is heavy, the film is approachable and even includes some humorous moments.
A powerful story about justice and courage.

7. My Masterpiece (Mi Obra Maestra)

An eccentric artist and his best friend, a gallery owner, get into some unexpected trouble.
A story about art and friendship, with a warm and slightly quirky tone.

Each of these films carries a unique Argentine atmosphere and perspective.
They may not be well-known in Japan, but every one of them is truly worth watching.
Start with whichever catches your eye!

If you end up watching any of these, I’d love to hear what you thought ☺️

Now. Go grab some freshly baked, warm empanadas and enjoy your movie night with Che! Empanada :)
